Credentialing of Care Workers Qualifications

  1. Australian College of Care Workers membership is open to persons working for remuneration (excluding government benefits) in:
    1. Residential Aged Care Services
    2. Disability
    3. Mental Health
    4. Community Services
    5. Supported Residential Services
    6. Independent Living Centres
    7. Home and Community Centres
    8. Day Care Centres
    9. Respite Care Services
    10. Retirement Villages
    11. Other environments where professional care is provided
  2. Members of Australian College of Care Workers are required to have completed and been deemed competent in the minimum qualifications or higher qualification.
    1. Carer Workers– Certificate III in Support care or Certificate in Ageing and Disability or equivalent in Aged Care or Mental Health Care, Certificate IV Disability.
    2. Leisure and lifestyle personnel – Certificate IV in Leisure and Health
    3. Laundry workers – Certificate III in laundry operations, Certificate III in Health Support Services
    4. Cleaners – Certificate III in cleaning operations or Certificate III in Health Support Services
    5. Food Handlers – Basic accredited certificate in safe food handling
  3. Members of Australian College of Care Workers are required to meet the following English Qualifications:
    1. have completed at least year 9 at an English-speaking school
    2. have completed and be deemed competent in Basic and General English or English as Additional Language (EAL)
  4. Members of Australian College of Care Workers are required to subscribe to the Australian College of Care Workers Code of Conduct and Code of Ethics.
  5. Members of Australian College of Care Workers are registered and consent to making the Members Register available to the public for the purpose of verifying their Membership.
  6. Work Experience – Evidence of a minimum of 200 hours of work experience annually.
  7. Continual Professional Development (CPD) – Evidence to show 20 hours of CPD per year for ongoing registration.
